email2trac is always installed with a root account. You installed it with an account that has not enough permission to change the owner of email2trac.conf file. So you can not do an make install.

Maybe i make another option to install the software under a non root account.

I had this problem too. Having an option to install under a non-root account would be good.

However, it's not too much trouble to edit the Makefile and replace root with another userid!

So, what kind of permissions/ownership are needed on email2trac.conf, anyway? I'll just try it with it being owned by the mta_user, for starters...

it will be read by the MTA_USER so that is a good one. But you still must be root to change the ownership of a file
