is it possible to manipulate ticket status, for example closing it reopening it via email2trac?

tried adding the above expression to both the subject and message body with no luck - it just creates new tickets instead of updating existing ones.
i have ticket_update: 1 set. do i need anything else to get ticket follow-ups to work?

It is implemented in the trunk version of email2trac. Can you test it?
So add after the ticket number i question mark, eg:
RE: [beowulf] #12?priority=blocker,owner=bas:

Did you read:
It can be done in the subject line or as inline comments in the ticket

close it no feedback. It is applied in upstream email2trac versions
We have had some discussions in the past and i will had it. And my suggestion is to use this syntax:
Or something else so we can use the url parser module ;-)
