v19 v20 2 2 = PXE-utilities = 3 3 4 This is a release of the SARA package of utilities that we use to boot our nodes with PXE-enabled network cards. This was developed because we always want to use the PXE-enabled network card as our first boot device. With pxelinux, which is a derivative of syslinux, you can specify with a PXE configuration file how the node must boot. This configuration is placed in, e.g. ''/tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg'' directory. 4 This is a release of the SARA package of utilities that we use to boot our nodes with PXE-enabled network cards. This is extremely useful for diagnostic purposes, 39 or for selecting an operating system installation method, of an individual 40 computer. 37 Also included in this package are the PXE-menu tools which are used to control the booting of networked computers 38 directly from the computer's console at the BIOS level before any operating system has been loaded. 39 You get an on-screen menu system which you navigate with the keyboard, 40 and this allows you to select dynamically the tool or disk image to be booted. 41 41 42 For further information please read the files README-pxemenu and INSTALL-pxemenu. 42 The PXE menus are extremely useful for diagnostic purposes, for firmware upgrades, 43 or for selecting an operating system installation method, of an individual computer while you work at its console 44 (for remote management you probably want to use the ''pxeconfig'' tool in stead). 45 46 Some example PXE menu configuration files are included which you can customize for your own environment and hardware. 47 Among the possibilities is to enable the [http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ Ultimate Boot CD] collection of boot disks directly from the PXE menus. 48 The PXE menus use the well-known [http://syslinux.zytor.com/ SYSLINUX] project. 49 For further information please read the files ''README-pxemenu'' and ''INSTALL-pxemenu''. 50 43 51 A more detailed discussion of the PXE menu tools is currently in https://wiki.fysik.dtu.dk/niflheim/PXE-booting 44 52 45 53 == Documentation == 46 54 47 How to install and make use of th ispackage:55 How to install and make use of the pxeconfig package: 48 56 * [wiki:PxeInstallation Installation] 49 57 * [wiki:PxeUsage Usage] 58 59 How to install and use the PXE menu tools: 60 * Installation: Please see the file ''INSTALL-pxemenu''. 61 * Usage: Please see the file ''README-pxemenu''. 50 62 51 63 An useful link about how to use Systemimager and the pxeconfig tools is:
